Design Within Reach, the San Francisco-based contemporary furnishings outlet (www.dwr.com) needs a music consultant. 

Even though they are are located in San Francisco, a former music capital of the world - see Summer of Love, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, etc - they clearly don't have a clue about music or vinyl records. Why do I say that? Look carefully at the image that I scanned from a copy of the catalog that recently was delivered to my house.

Pictured is a 'sound system' that can dock your IPod or be plugged into a turntable, even. Ok, fair enough. Not sure how wonderful the sound might be from this unusual tower, but it looks cool. Good enough....or not.

They are ruining their vinyl records!!

Look at the neat stack of records in the background. Instead of having the records neatly stored in one of the many shelving systems that Design Within Reach sells they are storing  their records ON TOP OF A RADIATOR!

Helloooooo!

Any company that treats their vinyl records like this knows squat about music. In my book.

Good thing it is still Autumn. Plenty of time to fix this picture before winter.
