Richard Thompson's New Album 'Dream Attic'
My friend Nick turned me on to Richard Thompson. Fairport Convention had already infiltrated my consciousness, but Thompson had not emerged in my mind as a distinctive artist in his own right. Until recently. The copy of 'Unhalfbricking' that I picked up in July at 'All That Music' in Leiden has been well played ever since, as has Thompson's 1983 solo effort, 'Hand of Kindness,' that I found a few days ago at Rebel Rebel in NYC.
Which brings me to Thompson's latest effort, 'Dream Attic.' Recorded live, the album sounds promising, loose and intense. Chicago-based critic Greg Kot has a useful review:

Richard Thompson is so great. I also like the stuff from the "and Linda" days. Wall of Death is one of my all time favorite songs.
Did you know he plays the 3 rivers arts festival on occasion? It's not too rare that he's in town.
