Re-Discovering Harvey Mandel

And while we are on the subject of great guitarists:

The next time the Stones' 'Hot Stuff' comes on the radio, listen to the guitar playing and you will hear the distinctive sound of Harvey Mandel.

The man who almost became a Stone when Mick Taylor left - Mandel auditioned but was beaten out by Ronnie Wood - Harvey Mandel recorded a few classic guitar albums in the early seventies on his own.

One, 1971's Baby Batter, is a personal favorite that I found for a few bucks at Jerry's recently. Mandel's distinctive jazz/blues guitar sound caught the ear of many bands. In addition to the Stones, Mandel played with Canned Heat, John Mayall and many others.

And is still playing...He recently released "Harvey Mandel and The Snakecrew" which is for sale at www.harveymandel.com  It is described as "Blues-rock-psychedelic-metal-jazz-country-roots-fusion or let's just call it Harvey Mandel music!"

Ok...

Mandel deserves to be heard and known by more people. Check him out.
