The Hand of Fatima Documentary Screening

I recently learned about a Milwaukee screening of a new documentary on rock critic Robert Palmer.

If you are in or near Milwaukee, go see this!

In this documentary about music, mysticism, and family history, filmmaker Augusta Palmer goes in search of the father who abandoned her when she was an infant. Robert Palmer (1945-1997) was one of America's pre-eminent music writers: he was the author of Deep Blues, a pioneering writer for Rolling Stone, and the first ...full-time rock critic at The New York Times. Augusta's journey takes her from Mississippi to Morocco, where she meets the Master Musicians of Jajouka, a 1000-year-old Sufi trance band who initiated her father into their ranks in 1973. Through animation, archival, and contemporary images, the filmmaker examines her father’s search for ecstasy and enlightenment.

Augusta Palmer invites you to "One Night Stand in Milwaukee: Screening of The Hand of Fatima" on Thursday, April 15 at 7:00pm.
