on spontaneity (and thanksgiving)
Thanksgiving came and went with increased speed. The same recipes made the morning move forward like clockwork and by 2 when our friends began to arrive I was ready, the kitchen was clean again, and signs of food prep chaos were nowhere to be seen.
I used familiar receipes.Familiar, knew what I was doing. Everything tasted delicious. We had a wonderful evening together with friends.
But I want to write about spontaneity.
Spontaneity is hard to get as you get older. If you are fortunate enough to have a good relationship and healthy happy kids and enough to live on and plenty, plenty to give thanks for, what do you need spontaneity for?
Maybe I appreciate it more now.
So, the next night after movies with the kids and several other families - The Amazing Fantastic Mr. Fox Movie - our friends Bob and Kathryn said, hey come back to our house for leftover thanksgiving desserts and....spontaneity.
So we did. Woohoo.
And. It. Was. Great.
The evening started and ended in Bob and Kathryn's kitchen of course. Glen's brother brought a case of great beer and Kathryn put on a disk that a friend had made of great, old, obscure, r&b. Playing on the builtin under cabinet cd player and sounding so so great. Thanks to my iPhone app for id-ing the songs and the singers.
And so so spontaneous...
