Kris Kristofferson in Concert at the Palace, February 20, 2009

Kris Kristofferson's voice is well-traveled, his guitar playing ragtag expressive, his songs legendary, unmatched. The 72-year old troubador, a survivor if there ever was one played a magnificent set last night at the Palace in Greensburg, PA. Standing alone in a pool of light, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar and harmonica and supported by an audience of adoring fans, Kristofferson's performance was a testament to the human spirit, to hope, to life in all of its joy and sadness. The performance's imperfections were many - he forgot his lyrics, struggled with his amplifier cable, blew his nose and swigged Gatorade - but all added to Kristofferson's already abundant charm. "Growing old's a bitch," he exclaimed at one point when a lyric escaped him, but that only endeared him to his audience more. It was a true life force, legend, a great artist we saw last night. Beautiful sad songs, beautiful broken voice. Beautiful life, worn and scratchy, like old records, they sound warm, and familiar, and immediate.
Thanks, Krista.
