The Music I Listen to Now

So, this is one of my most recent finds. It's a good one! These days, I am mostly listening to garage and psychedelic rock like this, recorded from 1965 - 1970. On the original vinyl...

Last Christmas, my present to myself was the Rhino CD compilation on San Francisco rock from 1965-1970. Since the collection only has one or two tracks per band, and since the CD sound was precise but cold, I began to seek out some of the original lps on vinyl. Many of the groups never recorded albums, just a few singles, but some did and they are interesting to listen to, because of their un-evenness. You can almost hear the bands' discussions and debates about what to record and how through the strange variety of self-penned and covered tunes and the range of instrumentation on a single album.

Too bad those early sessions were not documented very well. It must have been an interesting creative process.
